San Luis Obispo gets a big honor for being bicycle friendly.

The League of American Bicyclists Tuesday named the City of San Luis Obispo one of the top bicycle-friendly cities in the United States. There are 190 cities around the nation that have earned the honor.

The League of American Bicyclists says San Luis Obispo has committed to improving conditions for bicycling by promoting bicycling and adopting pro-bicycling policies. The organization says it was also impressed by the City's partnership with the SLO County Bicycle Coalition.

San Luis Obispo's designation is "silver-level," which is a four-year designation. The League of American Bicyclists says the designation puts the city in a better place to receive grant funding for bicycle-related projects.

Only 190 of 490 applicants received the designation this year.
