San Luis Obispo CAT starts downtown patrols

A new team of two officers with the San Luis Obispo Police Department hits the streets Thursday.

The Community Action Team, CAT, will focus on patrols in the downtown area.

The department says a large number of their calls in the area are to deal with issues related to transients.

Complaints include transients aggressively panhandling, being drunk in public and committing crimes.

CAT officers will go wherever they are needed, from the creek beds, to the open spaces, to the sidewalks of downtown San Luis Obispo.
