San Luis Obispo County Jail inmate dies

A San Luis Obispo County Jail inmate died early Wednesday morning.

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office said Josey Richard Meche was booked into jail around 11:26 p.m. Tuesday night.

He was arrested earlier that night by San Luis Obispo Police and was facing one charge of resisting arrest.

The Sheriff's Office said he did not complain about a medical condition and was cooperative.

About an hour after he was booked into jail, Meche was found unresponsive on the floor of his cell, where he was alone.

He was taken to a local hospital where he died around 1:50 a.m. Wednesday.

The cause of death is under investigation.
