San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Deputies vote for new union

San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Deputies vote to create a new bargaining unit. According to a spokesperson for the new union, ballots were tabulated Wednesday evening. Sworn Sheriff's Deputies and Sergeants voted 89 to 40 to no longer be represented by the Deputy Sheriff's Association. Their new bargaining unit will be called the Association of San Luis Obispo County Deputy Sheriff's.

The Deputy Sheriff's Association was considered a "blended" union and had represented sworn peace officers, correctional officers, dispatchers and property officers. The Association of San Luis Obispo County Deputy Sheriff's will represent sworn Sheriff's Deputies and Sergeants.

The election needs to be certified by the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors.
