San Luis Obispo firefighter arrested for assault, battery

The San Luis Obispo Police Department arrested a city firefighter Thursday for assault and battery.

Officers say the incident happened around 11:30p.m. last Saturday at Pappy McGregor's Pub and Grill. Officers say someone reported Jory Brigham, 32, of Los Osos, was in the men's bathroom with significant facial injuries, including a bloody nose and mouth.

Officers say Brigham was at the restaurant with a wedding party, which included John Mason, 34, of San Luis Obispo. Mason is a firefighter for San Luis Obispo City Fire Department.

While using the restroom, officers say Brigham and Mason got into a fight. They say Mason struck Brigham several times in the face, knocking him unconscious and fracturing his jaw, nose and eye area. Mason was unharmed in the fight.

The police department says it has been investigating the assault since it happened, but arrested Mason Thursday.

He's been charged with assault with great bodily injury, battery with serious bodily injury and inflicting great bodily injury while committing a felony.

He's been booked into county jail on $50,000 bail.
