San Luis Obispo High School sophomore receives President's Volunteer Service Award

A member of Big Brothers Big Sisters San Luis Obispo County has been awarded the President's Volunteer Service Award. Big Sister Bella Stenvall was given a certificate with President Obama's signature, as well as a letter of commendation from the White House and two commemorative pins. Bella is a sophomore at San Luis Obispo High School. She's completed more than 100 service hours. This is her second year mentoring her "Little Sister" through the program. In addition to acting as a "Big" every Thursday after school, Bella also volunteers at the Winter WonderSLO fundraising and ice skating event, and she participated in the 2013 Bowl for Kids' Sake campaign. Big Brothers Big Sisters serves elementary and high school students in San Luis Obispo, Morro Bay, and Nipomo. The program pairs younger children with mentors who can help them focus on social skills, fitness, creativity, leadership, and homework help. To find out how you can help, click here.
