San Luis Obispo County Native Heather Marsh-Hale's efforts to help a woman injured in the Colorado theatre massacre may be going to the dogs, but in a positive way.
Hale was devastated by the tragedy that took place in the Aurora, Colorado theatre on July 20 and was particularly touched by the story of 22-year-old amateur photographer Farrah Soudani.
Soudani was a victim in the mass shooting and was hit by flying shrapnel as a result of an explosion and rapid gunfire and has now lost a kidney, her spleen and part of her leg.
She is without health insurance and her medical bills are mounting.
Soudani along with other victims of the shooting have garnered attention from people all over the country who are doing their part to help aid the victims and their families.
President Barack Obama flew into University Hospital in Aurora on Air Force One to show support for the victims and families as well.
Soudani's family hopes to raise $100,000 through a donation fund that has been set up to help offset the extensive medical bills she will face.
Hale is the owner of Hale's Australian Labradoodles and is now doing her part to help by using her dog breeding skills to pay for some of Soudani's expenses.
Hale will be selling one Labradoodle puppy to the highest bidder and all proceeds will go to Soudani's fund that her family has created.
"I learned of Farrah's situation because one of my clients is Farrah's cousin. My connection to Farrah urged me to take matters into my own hands and I knew immediately that I must do something to help this family," said Hale. "I can't just sit back and not do anything, I know I have a means to help and I am determined to turn that into an action and make this happen."
All of Hale's Australian Labradoodles are bred for the enjoyment of the puppies and to further promote the breed.
These dogs are known for their excellent health, conformation, temperament and beauty.
Hales' business strictly adheres to the Australian International Labradoodle Association and Premium Breeders List's code of ethics and breeds standards and is one of California's original Labradoodle breeders.
The puppy going up for auction is a 12-week-old, male, chocolate, multi-generational Australian Labradoodle named Gabe who has recently begun training and bidding will end Aug. 31.
