San Luis Obispo police, fire departments share design on new patches

Police and fire personnel in San Luis Obispo have a new piece on their uniforms.

Both agencies swapped out their old shoulder patches for ones that show the unity between them.

The patches show the new city emblem.

San Luis Obispo City Fire Department Chief Garret Olson says, "It's unique that a police department and a fire department would have such commonality among their patches, but i think that's just the sense of the way we get along here in the City of San Luis Obispo."

The patches are different colors to distinguish between the police and fire departments.

The departments have used the previous patch that dates back to the 1950s.
