Two Red Cross volunteers from San Luis Obispo will be deployed to Washington tomorrow to provide aid from the massive fires burning in the North-Central part of the state.
Their names are Colleen Hubbard and Mark Penza.
Colleen is a nurse and will be offering medical assistance.
Mark is part of the mass care and shelter team, and will be handing out supplies to people who have lost their homes.
"It's tremendous," Mark said. "The biggest thing I give them is a bottle of water the first day I get there, and they tell me their story, we cry together, and I give them a hug. It's gratifying to be a small part in their recovery."
Colleen says she expects to be there for about three weeks, or for as long as she is needed.
Mark says he will be there for about two weeks.
