The San Luis Obispo Saturday Farmers' Market is celebrating 35 years on the Central Coast. The anniversary celebration kicked off Saturday morning with cooking and gardening demonstrations, as well as live music. The market opened up back in 1978. It was one of the first five farmers' markets in the state. "A direct marketing program was legislated in 1978, and so that enabled them to have what we have now - certified farmers' markets," said Peter Jankay, an Administrator for the San Luis Obispo County Farmers' Market Association. The anniversary celebration continues over the next two weekends. On the 31st, there will even be a special ceremony honoring several people who have gone to the market since it opened. The market takes place every Saturday in the Cost Plus World Market and Embassy Suites parking lot.
