Andrea Reynolds drove in a run at the plate and threw a complete game two-hitter as San Luis Obispo softball beat visiting Pioneer Valley 3-1 on Tuesday in both teams' Pac 7 League openers.
The Tigers are now 7-2 overall and 1-0 in league. PV fell to 6-2 overall and 0-1 in league.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third inning. Rhiannon Ferriday led off with a walk for the Tigers. Erica Chandler doubled over the third baseman's head to put runners at second and third with nobody out. Hailey Rich hit a grounder to third, where the Panther fielded it and threw home, but Ferriday beat the tag and SLO took a 1-0 lead. Two batters later, Reynolds swung and rolled the ball a few feet in front of the plate. PV pitcher Serena Fernandez fielded it, but her throw to the plate got away from the catcher allowing Chandler to score and make it 2-0 Tigers. Madi Walters followed with a sacrifice to left to score Rich and cap the Tigers' 3 run inning.
PV scored one unearned run against Reynolds. The UC Davis recruit allowed two early hits and did not walk a batter. She struck out 5 Panthers to earn the win.
San Luis Obispo plays a big Pac 7 game on Friday at defending league champion Atascadero.
