Santa Barbara County leaders have filed a complaint to get a permanent gang injunction in the city. The injunction is a civil court order preventing specified gang members from
certain behaviors within specific areas of the city.

The order names 30 gang members as defendants from both the Eastside and Westside gangs. They were selected based on a documented history of gang-related crime and violence. The injunction would prohibit them from associating with other gang members, carrying weapons, using drugs or alcohol, trespassing, carrying graffiti tools, and gang recruitment.

Currently, Santa Maria does not have a gang injunction. Lompoc has had an injunction since 2005.
