If you're a homeowner in Santa Maria, be aware of a possible scam going around town.
The Santa Barbara County District Attorney's Office is looking into a potential loan modification service that promises to stop foreclosures or save homes from foreclosures.
About 15 victims have come forward. Most of them have lost their homes because of the scam.
The DA's Office fears there could be more victims out there.
The group, which consists of about 3 people and is based out of Los Angeles, advertised their business on Spanish radio in Santa Maria.
In the advertisement, the group said it could help people who were either experiencing foreclosures or had been foreclosed upon and said they would help get their homes back.
Chief Deputy District Attorney Kelly Scott said in many of these cases business was done over the phone.
"The red flags are always when the foreclosures consultant asks for money up front to perform the services," said Scott.
The DA's Office said the group has been known to work under the names of Hermandad Hispanic Group, Crown Point Education and America Asset Management.
KSBY tried contacting Crown Point Education but it was not a working number.
