The Santa Barbara County Fire Department's Orcutt station will now be staffed around the clock with firefighter paramedics.

On February 8, Fire Station 21 became a core paramedic station. The department now provides firefighter paramedic coverage to Orcutt residents 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department operates 16 stations. Of those, eight are core firefighter paramedic stations which are staffed around the clock. The other eight stations use "Paramedic Extension Kits" that have Advanced Life Support (ALS) medical equipment.

The fire stations in Lompoc and Cuyama Valley both provide ambulance service, and the department's rescue helicopter is located at the Santa Ynez Airport.
