Santa Barbara falls to Modesto Christian in CIF State Championship

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Santa Barbara Girl's Basketball team fell 64-55 to Modesto Christian in the CIF Division III State Championship game on Friday.

The game - which was played at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento - marked the first title game appearance in school history for the Lady Dons, who won a CIF divisional title earlier this month.

The Dons trailed 11-8 after one quarter of play and cut the deficit to two midway through the third quarter on an Amber Melgoza layup, but the Crusaders answered with a quick 7-0 run and Santa Barbara was unable to threaten the rest of the way.

Melgoza - who was named CIF divisional MVP earlier this month - finished with a game-high 30 points for Santa Barbara.

The defeat snapped an 11 game win streak for Santa Barbara, who end their season at 30 - 6.
