Santa Barbara High School grads still making good on vacation promise 30 years later

A group of friends originally from Santa Barbara are making good on a promise they made to each other 30 years ago.

In 1982, John Wardlaw, Mark Rumer, Dallas Burney, John Molony, and John Dickson were 19-year-old Santa Barbara High School graduates taking a vacation to Copco Lake in Northern California. They made a promise to each other when they headed home that no matter what, they'd meet at that spot every five years for the rest of their lives.

Thirty years later, they're still making the trip every five years, traveling from New Orleans, Portland and Santa Barbara. They've documented the vacations with a photograph on the same bench, sitting in the same order and making the same pose.

The men are now 48 years old, and they just took that picture for the seventh time.

They've documented their project on Facebook, Copcolake.com, and Fiveyearphotos.com.
