A Santa Barbara man waved his right to a preliminary hearing Tuesday afternoon in a Santa Barbara County courtroom.

Michael Joseph Holden, 36, was arrested back last month, after being accused of being on the run for nearly a year, rape and burglary.

Santa Barbara Police say Holden had nonconsensual sex with a female. The victim became pregnant and went to a medical facility to have the pregnancy terminated.

Officers say they conducted DNA samples on the fetal remains for a criminal case, and took a DNA sample of Holden. The California Department of Justice determined Holden was the biological father.

Holden will be back in court for arraignment on August 16.
