Santa Barbara Police arrest alleged gang member

Santa Barbara Police say they've arrested a known gang member.

Police arrested Benjamin Ybarra, 35, of Santa Barbara, for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition and for manufacturing a controlled substance.

Police say Ybarra is a known area gang member.

Detectives served a search warrant at his home on the 900 block of Ortega Street. They had been conducting an ongoing gang-related investigation. The search warrant was for weapons, narcotics, and gang participation.

On Tuesday, detectives saw him leaving his house. They stopped him and served the search warrant. Inside his house, they say they found a loaded .32 caliber handgun, marijuana, and equipment for converting marijuana into hashish oil.

Ybarra was arrested and booked in the Santa Barbara County Jail. His bail is set at $180,000.
