The Santa Barbara Police Department says an investigation into a molestation case in the city has netted another arrest. This time, it's the victim's mother who is behind bars.
Detectives launched an investigation after Planned Parenthood in Santa Barbara told police that a 13-year-old girl came in because she thought she was pregnant. The girl told police that Martin Morales, 19, was her boyfriend. Officers arrested Morales, as well as Jose Hernandez-Alecio, 25, and Jonathon Cisneros, 25, after the girl's family found what they called suspicious messages on her Facebook page and reported it to police. Officers say all three men had molested the victim.
When detectives showed up at the victim's home on Wednesday, June 13 to investigate a possible fourth instance of molestation, they say the victim's mother was at the door saying goodbye to a man leaving the residence. Officers say the man was not the victim's father, and that the victim's mother was dressed in a negligee. Officers say they this was the second time they had witnessed a man other than the victim's father leaving the residence while the victim's mother was at the door in a negligee.
Officers approached the man leaving the home, Kevin Manzo of Ventura, and he admitted he had paid the victim's mother for sex. He was cited and released. The victim's mother denied the accusation, and said she was just providing massages, but officers later found an advertisement they say was posted by the victim's mother for escort services.
She was arrested and booked on $2,500 bail. Her identity is not being released to protect the identity of the molestation victim.
