Santa Barbara teen dies in Highway 101 crash

A Santa Barbara teen is dead after officers say he drove the wrong way on Highway 101 in Carpinteria Wednesday night and crashed into a semi-truck.

The crash happened around 10:40 p.m. on the northbound side of the highway.

The California Highway patrol reopened the road around 5:45 Thursday morning.

Investigators say 16-year-old Daniel James Perez died at the scene after his car rolled onto its roof.

The other driver, a 56-year-old man from Mississippi, was not hurt.

The crash remains under investigation.
