We all know it's more proof there's No Place Like Home and now a lot of the west coast is going to be reminded. The Santa Maria Valley is touted in the August issue of Sunset magazine as "The West's Best Unsung BBQ Town."
This story is written by food editor Margo True, who has payed a few visits to the Santa Maria Valley researching it's barbecue scene. She talked to locals including Santa Maria Elks Lodge grillers, including Ike and Gary Simas, Larry Turner, Tom Sartain and Jerry Lloyd. She also talked to random families in the park enjoying a casual Sunday barbecue picnic.
The resulting story is a 10-page feature that incluces local recipes and puts local hot spots for Santa Maria style barbecue in the spotlight. Shaw's Steakhouse, the Far Western Tavern, both Hitching Post establishments, the Garey Store & Deli and the Filipino Community Food Truck all get attention.
