Santa Maria boy headed to MLB competition

A young athlete from Santa Maria is heading to Minneapolis, MN for the Major League Baseball "Pitch, Hit, and Run" competition.

This spring, 600,000 boys and girls competed in the official skills program for a chance to advance to the finals.

Carmelo "Tugboat" Hernandez, 12, is one of 24 finalists. He will represent the LA Dodgers in the national competition.

He's currently ranked number one in the country. The competition is part of the MLB All-Star festivities.

Hernandez and his family head to Minneapolis on July 12.
