The Santa Maria City Council will consider a proposal Tuesday night that bans the use of electronic cigarettes in public spaces.
Right now, someone can light one inside city buildings.
The ordinance amendment was proposed by the city librarian.
If approved, smoking e-cigarettes would be banned like normal cigarettes, pipes and cigars.
The Santa Maria City Council will vote on the proposal at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday night at city hall.
