Santa Maria City Council to decide on discount store ban

The Santa Maria City Council will decide whether or not to extend a ban on discount stores Tuesday night.

The ban went into effect last month, when the City Council approved the opening of the discount store Fallas.

Fallas has since opened in Town Center West.

The Council then voted to ban any other new discount stores from opening in the downtown area.

The ban was set for 45 days, and during that time, city planners were able to reevaluate the downtown plan.
