Today is the first day new Station 5 in Santa Maria will be fully staffed.

Crews will include some of the new fire fighters who finished training three days ago.

Chief Dan Orr says Station Five on E. Donovan will increase response time by 20%.

The new station was built with federal money the city received back in 2009.

The Santa Maria Fire Department will also receive funds from "Measure U."

The sales tax increase went into effect in October.
