Santa Maria firefighters honored one of their own who died in the line of duty.
On April 25, 1970 William Alvin Newton died while fighting a fire at a hotel on Main and Broadway Streets in Santa Maria.
As part of the memorial city fire crews also got to check out the firefighter exhibit at the city's history museum.
Santa Maria Fire Chief Dan Orr told KSBY News, "There are pieces that I heard that I've never heard in the 12 years I've been here. Its very important for us to learn what our history is cause its very rich and were very blessed to have such a great history. "
The exhibit is all part of the 100 year celebration of the department.
