Santa Maria Library celebrates fifth birthday

The Santa Maria Library is celebrating its fifth birthday this weekend. The birthday bash kicked off Saturday morning. There was live music, book giveaways, and a birthday cake. Organizers put on the event so they could showcase the $25 million library and hopefully bring in more patrons. "Even if people maybe aren't a traditional library user, they'd probably be surprised to come in and find something that they're going to latch on to and come back for," said Mary Housel, the City Librarian, "You can come in and pursue your passions in life, make your life more full, and you can learn. We have an office for Central Coast literacy, and you can learn to read if you don't know how to read in English. We've got lots of children programs that help foster the love of reading." The library is located at 421 South McClelland Street. It is open Monday through Saturday.
