Santa Maria man arrested on suspicion of sexual assault in SLO

San Luis Obispo Police arrested Gregory Erwin, 49, on Thursday, on several charges including rape, armed robbery, and assault with a deadly weapon.

Police say Erwin sexually assaulted and robbed a woman in her hotel room at the San Luis Inn and Suites just before 1:30 am on Thursday.

The woman was able to give police a good description of her attacker, the gun he used to threaten her, and the man's license plate number.

Investigators arrested Erwin at his home in Santa Maria where they say they found evidence of the crime.

Police say they are contacting other law enforcement agencies to determine if Erwin is responsible for other sexual assaults in the area.
