A Santa Maria man is behind bars after deputies say he tried to hijack a helicopter at the Yuba County Airport.
Yuba County Lieutenant Damon Gill says Zachary Hinders jumped into the back of a helicopter Thursday afternoon, ordering the pilot to take off. But, the pilot refused and told him to get out of the helicopter.
They say Hinders was not armed and was seen running from the helicopter.
He was later arrested by authorities near the Yuba County Airport.
Hinders was booked into Yuba County Jail on suspicion of burglary and attempted theft.
A motive is unknown at this time.
