The Santa Maria Philharmonic Society announced Wednesday it plans to shut down.
The Philharmonic is well known for performing "Peter and the Wolf" for area fourth graders, along with several concerts throughout the year.
The Board of Directors says the Philharmonic Society has been unable to secure enough funding for another season. The Society relies heavily on donations, grants and bequests.
Society members still must approve the Board's decision at the upcoming annual membership meeting scheduled in June.
