Santa Maria Police arrest two people at DUI checkpoint

The Santa Maria Police Department arrested two people at a DUI and Driver's License Checkpoint Saturday night.

They held the checkpoint in the 1300 block of S. Broadway Street from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Officials say six drivers were evaluated for DUI, and two were arrested for DUI.

Eight other drivers were cited for driving while unlicensed. All vehicles driven by unlicensed drivers were released to a licensed driver.

1,663 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, and 465 vehicles were screened by officers.

Funding for the program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.
