The Santa Maria Police Department has a Community Beat Coordinators unit again.
The department says the unit was reinstituted by Interim Chief Ralph Martin.
The unit is made up of officers who mainly handle service calls while on patrol, but also handle specific issues within the city.
While the unit is not for emergency purposes, the department encourages the public to contact the beat coordinators with neighborhood issues.
The city is divided up into three beats.
Beat Coordinator Supervisor is Sgt. Chris Nartatez.
Other beat coordinators are Cpl. Woody Vega, Cpl. Eligio Lara, and Cpl. Jeff Lopez.
