Some of the people who help keep the city of Santa Maria safe were honored Thursday.
The Santa Maria Police Department hosted an awards lunch to honor sworn officers, support staff, and citizens who have gone the extra mile to make the community safe.
The winners also included the SMPD dispatchers and Officer Mike Parker.
Parker was recognized as Santa Maria's Police Officer of the Year.
He told KSBY News, "I love the ability to go after people who are harming our community. I've grown up in Santa Maria; I've lived here my whole life my father lived most of his life here. It's great to be able to serve my community and be able to put people who are harming that community in jail or in prison."
The awards luncheon is an annual event held at the Santa Maria Elks Club.
