Santa Maria police investigating early morning shooting

Santa Maria police are investigating a shooting that happened around 12:15 a.m. Tuesday.

Police were called to a local hospital for reports of a person with a gunshot wound. They arrived and found a man with non-life threatening gunshot wounds.

Investigators were able to determine there was a shooting in the area of Donovan and East Avenue just before the victim arrived at the hospital.

Police say the victim was driving eastbound on Donovan Road with a passenger in his vehicle when someone pulled up next to the his vehicle. One of the people inside the other vehicle fired multiple gunshots at the victim and his vehicle.

The victim was hit by the gunfire, and he drove himself to the hospital.

Officers are trying to identify any suspects involved in the shooting.

The suspect vehicle is described as a newer four-door gray or white colored Ford Focus or Nissan. Police say two men were inside.
