Santa Maria police warn that a groper on bike has struck again

Santa Maria police are investigating a series of reported sexual assaults in the past month involving a man on a bike who grabs females from behind. Most of the crimes have occurred in the northern area of the city near the Santa Maria River levee.

The latest incident happened Wednesday afternoon, just hours after one was reported near Cook and Lincoln on Tuesday night.

The incident Tuesday involved a Hispanic man about 20 to 25 years old. He wore a brown sweater and blue jeans and was riding on a dark mountain bike.

In the latest case on Wednesday, the groper was also described as a Hispanic male in his twenties, about 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing about 175 to 180 pounds. He has short hair, a thin mustache and dark complexion. Police say he wore a Dallas Cowboys blue, zip up hoodie, a red baseball cap and also was on a black mountain bike.

In the earlier incidents, the groper was on a red mountain bike.

Anyone with information on these cases is asked to call the SMPD at 928-3781 or Crime Stoppers at 1-877-800-9100.
