Santa Maria receives grant to increase traffic enforcement

The Santa Maria Police Department received a new state grant to fund a year-long program aimed at preventing more death and injuries on city roads.

The $140,000 grant will add special enforcement and public education programs.

Santa Maria Police Chief Ralph Martin says Santa Maria has seen a rise in traffic fatalities this year.

The department says the money will help fund more DUI patrols and distracted driving enforcement.
