The American Heart Association will host a kick-off event for the nonprofit organization's 19th Annual Northern Santa Barbara County Heart Walk.
It is being held Wednesday, June 23, at Marian Medical's Health and Wellness Center at noon.
There you can register for the 5k, learn how to form a team and get information about heart disease.
"The kick-off is a great way for community members to find out how to get involved in this year's Start! Heart Walk," said Julia Nagy, Executive Director of the American Heart Association's Central Coast Division. "Heart disease and stroke are the top two causes of death in Santa Barbara County, and the kick-off is the perfect opportunity to 'Start!' making a difference in our community."
The goal of this year's walk is to raise $100,000 for heart and stroke research.
The Santa Maria Heart Walk event is September 11 at Waller Park.
The American Heart Association is also hosting two walks in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara in October.
