Students and teachers at Santa Maria High School are in shock over the death of a popular teacher following childbirth.
Trishawna Quarles, who taugh at the high school for five years, died Friday. She leaves behind her newborn son, Dorian, and her husband, Aaron.
Quarles had struggled with sickle cell anemia since she was a child. But fellow faculty members at Santa Maria High School said she never let her medical problems keep her from being a very dedicated and popular English teacher who always had a smile on her face.
"She was very caring. She held students to high standards but she provided the tools they needed to learn and she quickly developed a rapport with them," said teacher Tanya Guiremand.
She added, " She was especially good working with students with their writing skills."
Services will be held Saturday at 11 am for Trishawna Quarles at the Agape Christian Fellowship, 950 Laureate Lane, San Luis Obispo.
A memorial fund has been up for her. Contributions should be send to the Trishawna Quarles Memorial Fund, Coastal Hills Federal Credit Union, P.O. Box 200, Lompoc, CA 93438-0200.
