Some teachers in the Santa Maria-Bonita School District have been given money to help their students.
Altrusa International of Golden Valley gave $15,000 to the district.
50 teachers of various grade levels and schools received $300 for classroom supplies, activities or lessons.
All of the teachers who earned the grants had to apply.
"Having $300 for me to buy books is one less thing i have to buy with my money, but i get to buy other things now that are going to benefit my students. This money is for my students," said 4th grade teacher Jeanet Herrera.
This is the second year Altrusa has given the grants.
It also donated 1900 backpacks and boxes of school supplies to the district at the beginning of this year.
