National trends show online holiday shopping is expected to be up by 10% over last year. The online trend comes as Santa Maria business leaders urge shoppers to support local retailers. The city's Chamber of Commerce is kicking off its Thanks for Shopping Santa Maria campaign for the third year in a row. David Cross is the Director of the Santa Maria Chamber of Commerce and says the campaign was created in 2010 when Santa Maria was having an economic downturn. He says retail sales were low. Once they announced this campaign, local retail sales increased by more than 7% and have gone up every year. "We'll have a new theater November 22nd and we have the Fallas that has moved into the vacant Mervyn's building, so we have two of those that are a symbol of economic recovery as far as retail and we are excited bringing retail sales back downtown," said Cross. http://www.santamaria.com/cm/Home.html
