Santa Maria Valley Railroad has been targeted by criminals once again.
Back in August, railroad President Rob Himoto told KSBY that vandals tagged dozens of his rail cars, and stole a welding machine.
Now he tells us that at least 24 pieces of copper wiring were taken just this past week.
Last year was one of the railroad's busiest years, so this incident is a major set back. Himoto says their locomotives are fairly old, and they don't manufacture the parts anymore.
"So we have a stash of parts to keep our locomotives going for many years to come," he said. "The theft really puts a dent in our inventory."
Himoto says he's stepping up patrols in the area, and keeping tabs on trespassers.
