People all over the Central Coast helped many in need Wednesday by donating blood.
A blood drive was held at the Paul Nelson Aquatics Center in Santa Maria Wednesday. All of the blood donated goes to the United Blood Services. For anyone that gave blood, they were treated to a free barbeque lunch.
"The chances are that almost everyone of us is going to need a blood transfusion at some point in our lives. I'm motivated becauses I just like like to give as a public servant it seems like the right thing to do," Mark van de Kamp, Management Analyst, City of Santa Maria.
One one in seven people that go to the hospital need blood, and blood is needed every 30 seconds.
