Santa Ynez earns CIF Division 5 Championship

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Santa Ynez baseball team captured their first CIF Championship in program history in a 2-0 victory over Village Christian at UC Riverside on Saturday.

The Pirates (29-1) got a first inning run on a Jacob Pritchard RBI single to center field. That would prove to be all the offense needed for Santa Ynez sophomore starter Zach Torra, who fired a complete game shutout.

Santa Ynez added an insurance run in the fourth inning on a Colby Barrick RBI single to right, and held on in the seventh when Torra got a stirkeout swinging to end the game.

The victory capped the first CIF Championship in program history for the Pirate program, who ended the season with 13 consecutive victories.
