The biggest crowd of the season was on hand as the Santa Ynez baseball team hosted Paraclete in the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Division 5 playoffs. The Pirates weren't able to score any runs against Paraclete starter Joseph Rodriguez and lost 7-0.
Paraclete scored a run in the top of the first inning and then crossed the plate twice more against Santa Ynez starter Nathan Thompson in the fifth. The Pirates first two batters reached in the bottom of the sixth but weren't able to score as Rodriguez pitched out of trouble. In the top of the seventh, Paraclete scored four more runs to put the game away.
Santa Ynez finishes the season 22-7, Paraclete improves to 25-2. Los Padres League rival, Lompoc did advance in the Division 5 playoffs with an 8-1 win at Village Christian. The Braves will host Paraclete in the semifinals. It would have been a Pirates-Braves matchup if Santa Ynez had won.
