Santa Ynez Transit has spent more than $150,000 to upgrade bus stops throughout Solvang, Buellton, Santa Ynez, Ballard and Los Olivos. The improvements include added seating, comfortable benches, shelters equipped with solar lighting and solar beacons to alert drivers at night when passengers are at the stops.
The SYVT is hoping that these improvements will provide safety for riders but also make the bus a more enjoyable experience. The solar beacons add a cost effective, eco-friendly solution, drawing power from the sun. The project has received strong support by local city governments, as it aims to increase ridership and improve customer experience. So far 21 bus stops have been improved with the remaining undergoing some finishing touches.
