The Santa Ynez High boys volleyball team entered the playoffs as the number two seed from the Los Padres League for the first time in twenty years. However, the Pirates continued another tradition on Tuesday with a 3-0 win in the first round of the CIF playoffs.
The Pirates defeated visiting Loara from Anaheim 25-18, 25-13 and 25-19 in a Division 3 first round match.
6-5 co-captain Jordan Hanley led the Pirates with 12 kills in the victory.
The Pirates play 2nd seeded South Torrance in Thursday's second round. Santa Ynez lost in the second round the previous two seasons. The Pirates made it to the third round in the 2009 playoffs.
The Pirates saw their streak of 19-straight LPL titles end this season at the hands of Morro Bay.
