SB Co. Sheriff's Office: Explosive found in downtown Solvang; mandatory evacuations ordered

Part of downtown Solvang is being mandatorily evacuated after an explosive device was found Wednesday afternoon.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office is calling the device a military ordnance. The area West of Alisal Road and 5th Street, and from Birch Drive and Maple Avenue is being evacuated. The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Bomb Squad and Vandenberg Air Force Base's Ordnance Disposal Team are investigating.

It was found on the 1600 block of Copenhagen road, and that area is cordoned off. The report of the device came in around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department Search and Rescue Team is evacuating people.
