ANAHEIM, Calif. - Senior Molly Schlemer poured in a game-high 29 points - 21 in the second half - as the No. 2 seed Cal Poly Women's Basketball team advanced to the Big West Tournament Championship Game with a 66 - 52 victory over Hawai'i on Friday.
Both offenses got off to a sluggish start, the two teams combining to miss their first 15 field goal attempts before a Destiny King jumpshot tied the game at three apiece for Hawai'i.
The Mustangs led virtually throughout, tying the game at 11 on Schlemer's first field goal midway through the first half and never looking back.
Junior Ariana Elegado - who played all 40 minutes for Cal Poly - added 20 points and 3 rebounds as the Mustangs earned a chance to defend the conference tournament title they won in Anaheim last year.
Senior Jonae Ervin - who scored 37 points in an overtime victory over Hawai'i earlier this year - chipped in with 11 points and 7 rebounds.
The Mustangs will square off with top seed Cal State Northridge, who defeated UC Irvine in the Big West's other semifinal game. Tip-off from the Honda Center in Anaheim is scheduled for 1 P.M. on Saturday. The game will be televised on Fox Sports West Primeticket.
