Q: Val wrote in to Animal Care Clinis about Gus Gus, her Chihuahua who has been itching so badly it is causing sores where he scratches. She is using Comfortis for fleas and so she doesn't think that is what it is. "What can I use to help stop the itching? Thank you for your assistence."
A: Dear Val, There may be nothing more frustrating than an itchy pet. I am sorry Gus Gus is having so much trouble. You are not alone! This may be the most common question we get on this experts page, our Facebook pages and in the exam room.
We have a thorough article about skin disease called "Itch, Scratch, Chew" that was posted on our Experts page in December of 2012. You can also access information by visiting our website www.animalcareclinicslo.com and searching for "scratch." Most of the time, a veterinarian will need to be involved to handle itchiness that is not associated with fleas. We would love to meet you and Gus Gus to see if we can help!
