Search continues for driver that hit former St. Joseph student this week

Santa Maria police are continuing the search for a driver that struck a former St. Joseph student Wednesday night, critically injuring him.

Joshua Geoffrey Shaffner, 23, was airlifted to a Central Coast hospital after police say he was hit by a Jeep.

Shaffner, who played on the school's football team, was riding his bike on the northbound side of Highway 135, just north of Waller Lane around 10:45 p.m.

Witnesses told police he was hit by a white 1990's model Jeep Grand Cherokee.

KSBY spoke with Shaffner's father, who says he was going into surgery Friday.

He says his son broke his pelvis, but has no head injuries.

Anyone with any information about this case is asked to call the Santa Maria Police Department at (805) 928-4781 ext. 115.
